Speaker Series Grant Awarded to Douglas College

The CPA Education Foundation has awarded a Speaker Series grant of $1,000 to Douglas College to support a session on data analytics.  Entitled, “Your Data Knows More Than You Think”, this session is planned for June, 6, 2019 to provide information about the impact of big data on business and the accounting profession.

The grant application was submitted by Shirley Mauger CPA CGA, chair of the accounting division at Douglas College and supported by Leanne Poon, executive director of the Douglas College Foundation.

Panel speakers include:  Gerry Akkerman, director business technology planning at Translink, Dr. Michael Favere-Marchesi, associate professor of accounting and auditing at Simon Fraser University Beedie School of Business, and Douglas College faculty Cathy Zhang CPA CGA.   The panel will focus on the impacts of data analytics and also share what Douglas College is doing to support students develop data analysis skills.

This is the first Speaker Series grant to Douglas College.  Said David Chiang, CPA CA, CPABC’s vice-president member services. “The CPAEF is delighted to support Douglas College faculty development in an area that is becoming extremely important to the future of CPAs and the profession.”

To apply for a Speaker Series grant, visit the CPAEF website under the tab, “Helping Faculty”.  A BC post secondary institution can receive up to $2,500 per session up to twice a year.   Applications are received throughout the year.
