UBC|Sauder School of Business hosted a reception on November 20, 2017 at the Big4 Conference Centre on the top floor of the Henry Angus Building located at the UBC campus to celebrate the accounting professions long support of UBC.
Over 65 invited guests, including the CPA Education Foundation Board, staff of CPABC, UBC|Sauder faculty, current and former students (now alumni), and supporters were in attendance.
Opening remarks were provided by UBC|Sauder Dean Robert Helsley who thanked the profession for its long support. Helsley was followed by CPABC CEO Lori Mathison FCPA FCGA who talked about the economic environment and how UBC|Sauder and the accounting profession work in partnership to support job creation and growth.
Brenda Waechter FCPA FCGA, chair of the CPAEF, then spoke about the many unique supports the foundation provides to UBC|Sauder faculty – such as endowments that support a Chair, Professorship, teaching excellence awards, and funds for faculty development – and for students through academic scholarships and bursaries, just to name a few.
On behalf of the CPAEF board and accounting profession, Waechter thanked UBC|Sauder for hosting this celebratory event, and said “the CPAEF is proud of the many varied supports for UBC|Sauder faculty and students. We look forward to continuing our wonderful collaboration with UBC in the many years ahead.”
Several other speakers provided remarks including Dr. Kin Lo FCPA FCA, who holds the CPA Professorship in Accounting, Dr. Russell Lundholm, chair of the UBC|Sauder accounting division, and Dr. Sandra Chamberlain CPA CMA, who was recently appointed the new CPA Chair of Accounting.
The audience included many supporters of UBC|Sauder and the accounting profession.
