On October 23, 2019, Dr. Robert Helsley, Dean, UBC Sauder School of Business, hosted the school’s annual Sauder Impact Night at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, BC.
The event was a way for the school to connect with donors, including the CPA Education Foundation (CPAEF), by celebrating the positive impact of donor support. Throughout the evening, many examples of how donor giving has transformed and empowered the UBC Sauder community were highlighted.
CPABC member Hari Varshney FCPA FCA OBC provided the keynote address and spoke about the power of giving. He recounted his personal story as a UBC student when he received a $1000 scholarship to attend UBC. Since that time, Hari has given back much more to UBC and the community.
Each year, the CPAEF provides over $24,000 to fund awards for accounting students attending UBC and UBC|Okanagan. Awards also include support for the Ch’nook Scholars Program for Indigenous students and the Diploma in Accounting (DAP). Students can find out more by contacting the Awards Office.
Samyta Rai, a fifth year accounting student also shared her story. She thanked donors for making a difference in the lives of students with their encouragement and generous financial support.
David Chiang CPA CA, CPABC’s vice-president member advice and programs, attended the event and said, “The CPAEF has a long history supporting UBC|Sauder. We congratulate the faculty, staff and students for their amazing achievements.”
