UBC and Langara College have received a Speaker Series grant of $3,600 from the CPA Education Foundation (CPAEF) to host a session on “Accounting Standards” on May 3, 2018.
Speakers included Linda Mezon FCPA FCA CPA (MI), chair of the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB), who spoke about current and emerging accounting standards; Amy Lam FCPA FCA, CPABC’s CFO who provided an overview of the CPA program; and a panel discussion on various tips and tools in addressing accounting standards in the classroom to improve overall student experience.
The panel was moderated by Graham McIntosh, executive director at UBC Sauder’s Diploma in Accounting Program and Continuing Business Studies and one of the organizers of the event, and featured panellists Erin Rao CPA CA and Diane McDonald CPA CA. Both Rao and McDonald teach various accounting sessions through the CPABC PD program.
This Speaker Series event was hosted by UBC at their Robson Square Conference Centre located in downtown Vancouver. Lunch was sponsored by Wiley.
Also in attendance were CPAEF governors Scott Sinclair FCPA FCA (faculty at the UBC|Sauder School of Business) and Judith Watson FCPA FCMA (faculty at Capilano University).
The CPAEF Speaker Series Program provides BC post secondary institutions with grants of up to $2,500 up to twice a year to bring notable speakers to their campus for faculty development. Grant applications are reviewed throughout the year.
