Douglas College Foundation hosted a donor appreciation event on October 28, 2019 at their David Lam Campus in Coquitlam BC.

Cecilia Piano CPA CGA, a director with the CPABC Burnaby/New Westminster Chapter, represented the profession and had the opportunity to connect with many scholarship recipients.

The chapter and the CPA Education Foundation (CPAEF) have recently funded a new award for an accounting student concentrating in the data analytics program.  The first award will be made in the Spring of 2020.

In 2018/19, donors gifted $2.2 million to support over 1,850 Douglas College students through scholarships, awards and bursaries.  These funds allow students to explore and discover new passions, strengths and pursue their dreams.  Contact the college awards office to find out more about this award.

The CPA Education Foundation also offers the CPAEF David Sale Memorial Bursary for post-secondary students with financial need.  The application form can be found on the CPAEF website under “Helping Students”.  Application deadline is November 15.

In addition to these awards, the CPAEF also supports faculty development.  In 2019/20, Douglas College received two Speaker Series Grants totaling $3,500 and several faculty members attended the biennial CPAEF Accounting Academics Symposium held in May 2019.  Said David Chiang CPA CA, CPABC’s vice-president member advice and programs, “we are delighted to support Douglas College accounting students and faculty and advancing accounting education in BC.”
