The CPA Education Foundation (CPAEF) has been a supporter of Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), formerly Kwantlen University College, since 1992.
Over the past 25 years, the CPAEF has provided KPU students and faculty with many various supports including:
- Student Scholarships – each year, there are two $1,250 CPAEF awards for students demonstrating scholastic achievement. As well as two additional matching awards – one in collaboration with the local CPABC Surrey/Langley/N.Delta Chapter for $1,300 (funded until 2026) and the other a matched award with the Fraser Valley CPA Association for $1,000.
- A Speaker Series program which provides grants of $2,500 up to twice a year to support KPU’s Business School in bringing guest speakers to the campus. These sessions are valuable in supporting faculty development. KPU was one of the earliest applicants under this CPAEF program and has received $21,000 since the inception of the program in 2011.
- The CPAEF also provides KPU full time academics with access to a 2-day CPABC Academic Passport which entitles academic members to two complimentary days of training through CPABC’s Professional Development program. In 2017/18, 23 KPU faculty registered for this program which has a value of $20,700.
- The CPAEF hosts a biennial Accounting Academic Symposium for full time academics at BC’s post-secondary institutions. In May 2017, many KPU faculty members attended the 2017 Symposium which provided them an opportunity to connect with other accounting academics from across the province.
These supports have been valued and appreciated by KPU students and business school faculty. In recognition of these supports, the CPAEF is acknowledged on the Kwantlen Foundation Donor Wall located in the Main Building on the KPU Surrey Campus.
On December 4, Wayne Tebb, Dean of the Kwantlen School of Business and Pamela Pittman, Advancement Officer, hosted David Chiang CPA CA, CPABC’s Vice-President Member Services, and Shobna Nand, Member Services Coordinator, for a tour of KPU’s Surrey Campus.
At the end of the tour, David Chiang said, “The CPAEF is delighted to be a long-term supporter of KPU and looks forward to continuing its support in the years ahead.”
